March 8, 2010
Hello everyone,
Can you believe it’s already March! Spring begins March 20th, don’t forget to set your clocks on Sunday, March 14th. Spring is very busy for IWSA. We will be jam-packed full of activities every month until installation.
We will have two very special guests at this month’s luncheon to help us celebrate IWSA’s 66th birthday. FIWT President, Teri Jones and Corresponding Secretary, Mary Gunn will be joining us to help us celebrate our birthday celebration. Teri will fill us in on all the FIWT news and upcoming events.
At last month’s luncheon, President Elect, Debbie Tomasini arranged for Jan Kearbey with Service Lloyds to speak to us about “Choices”. Jan also held a 2 hour CE Ethics class before the luncheon at Southern Cross Underwriters’ office. It is always a treat to have Jan visit us.
April is an especially busy month. First, we have our annual IWSA “Swing into Spring” Golf Tournament at the Canyon Springs Golf Club on Thursday, April 8th. Second Vice President, April Massey is still looking for sponsors and door prize donations and of course golfers. The tournament is open to everyone, please mention to your family, friends and co-workers. Tickets are now on sale for the Liquor Wagon Raffle. The cost is $5.00 each and you can purchase tickets from April, she will have tickets at the luncheon. Yes, she does accept checks. Please let April know if you want some tickets to sell. The drawing will be held at the golf tournament. If you would like to donate a bottle of your favorite alcoholic beverage please bring to the luncheon. Candy Price is also accepting door prizes for the golf tournament.
Mid-Year Conference will be here this year, April 16th and April 17th at the Omni Hotel at the Colonnade. There will be nine hours of CE classes. The deadline for early registration is March 26th. The deadline for the bowling tournament is April 2nd. The bowling tournament cost will be $30.00, which includes lunch, shoes and bowling, the non-bowling charge is $15.00, which includes lunch. Register to come out and support your favorite bowler, it should be a lot of fun as there are so many non-professional bowlers!! We still need a lot of teams, teams will consist of 5 players. Sue Finke, Angie Cash and Susie Hollingsworth are who you need to contact if you would like to help. If you have ever won a door prize, now is the time to donate!! We need so many prizes.! We need prizes for the bowling tournament, bingo and for the conference.
Please go to www.fiwt.com to register.
Be on the look out for flyers from Debbie Tomasini, President Elect and Education Chair, she has speakers scheduled for the upcoming months. Debbie has also mailed the scholarship letters and applications to all the local high schools. Copies are also posted on the IWSA website at www.iwsatx.com. If you know of a deserving student please give them the information.
The deadline for submitting an application is April 30, 2010. The winners will be introduced and honored at our May General Assembly Meeting.
It’s that time of the year again to start thinking about serving on a Committee or on the Executive Board. Please give some serious thought to volunteering. I encourage everyone to get involved, especially all the “new” members. We will introduce all our “new” members at our April luncheon. I am sure Susan Hancock, First Vice President, has something wonderful planned.
I hope to see everyone on March 25th at The Bright Shawl as we celebrate our 66th birthday. We look good for 66!! Where does the time fly?
Best regards,
Cynthia Flores, CIC, CISR
IWSA President
